LiFePO4 Battery OEM & ODM: How the Process Works

Short answer: An OEM LiFePO4 project starts with a written specification (voltage, capacity, continuous current, BMS protocol, case, connector), moves to a sample for validation, then to a pilot batch and production. Customisation covers label, case, BMS configuration, packaging and documentation; MOQ depends on which of those you change.

Most OEM projects fail at the specification stage, not the production stage. If the continuous current, charge profile or communication protocol is left vague, the first container arrives with units that do not match the customer’s system.

The Six Steps

Step What happens What you provide
1. Specification Voltage, capacity, current, BMS, case, connector Load profile and target market
2. Quotation Unit price, MOQ, tooling, lead time Quantity and destination
3. Sample Built to spec, tested, shipped Feedback and approval
4. Validation Capacity, BMS, communication, packaging Test results or acceptance
5. Production Batch build with pre-shipment check Label artwork, manual
6. Shipping UN38.3, MSDS, CE/RoHS, invoice, packing list Forwarder details

What Can Be Customised

  • Label and packaging: brand, model naming, manual, carton printing.
  • Case: colour, case format (standard/thin/slim), terminal type.
  • BMS: continuous current, communication protocol, low-temperature cut-off, balancing strategy.
  • Connectors: Anderson, XT60, ring terminals, custom harness.
  • Accessories: charger, solar panel, mounting bracket, carry bag.

What Drives MOQ

Changing a label is cheap and usually needs a small MOQ. Changing a case mould, BMS firmware or a connector harness adds tooling and setup, which raises the minimum. The same battery in a different label can often ship from a smaller batch than a new mechanical design.

Documentation

Every OEM order ships with UN38.3, MSDS, CE and RoHS declarations matching the model, plus packing list and commercial invoice. If the destination market requires additional certification, raise it at the specification stage — not after production.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between OEM and ODM?

OEM means we build to your specification under your brand; ODM means we propose an existing design that you brand. ODM is faster and cheaper; OEM gives you more control.

How long does an OEM project take?

Sample typically 2–4 weeks after specification sign-off; production depends on the batch and whether tooling is involved. Confirm the schedule in the quotation.

Can you use cells from a specific maker?

Yes, if the cell is available and suits the pack design. We will confirm the maker, model and lead time before quoting.

Do you provide the BMS firmware source?

No. We configure the BMS to the agreed specification and provide the parameters; the firmware remains the BMS supplier’s IP.
